00 PM PacificDescription We are searching for our next leader for our Senior Policy Advisor role.
This position is a key member of the Office of Public Affairs (OPA) and reports directly to the Director of Public Affairs.
This Office has a primary responsibility for managing DCYF's legislative relationships, strategic legislative decision making, responsibilities and initiatives, coordinating with local and regional governments, assisting in our work that impacts children and families who are members/citizens of the federally recognized tribal sovereign nations within our state's borders, and supporting furthering the Agency's mission in a diverse set of public engagements.
Members of this Office will work directly with staff from programs, fiscal teams and executive leaders to refine and develop agency strategy and policy stances on a host of issues impacting the agency and its' services.
Members of this Office will also be responsible for fostering positive and effective partnerships with community organizations and individuals in support of the Agency's mission and goals.
This position will ensure DCYF has the capacity and expertise dedicated to agency-wide policy and practice with an analytical approach to ultimately create effective relationships with the Washington State Legislature.
They will provide the needed information to legislature, Agency Secretary, and the Governor's office to ensure that legislative and budget decisions are based on reliable and consistent information.
They will also ensure that legislation and the appropriate funding is provided to help ensure the goals of DCYF are met.

oWork closely with executive staff to develop strategic direction for short and long-term policy agenda and legislative goalsoCoordinate efforts with industry-based coalitions and outreach to potential allies on issues of mutual interestoEducate and provide technical assistance to elected officials about DCYF programs and initiativesoCollaborate with Office of Innovation, Accountability, and Alignment (OIAA) on research, data projects, white papers, etc.

oSupervise one WMS policy advisoroTrain policy advisors, manage team schedules and ensures staff understand and are meeting agency goals and expectations Required Experience/Education:
Nine (9) years of equivalent combination of education/experience.
ORBachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience interpreting, developing, and assisting successful implementation of policy and creating and implementing strategic direction.
ORMaster's degree in social science, psychology, sociology, public administration, political science or related field and three (3) years of experience interpreting, developing, and assisting successful implementation of policy and creating and implementing strategic direction.
This position will also require knowledge and experience in:
Services for children, youth and families served by DCYF's programs, services and staff, specifically but not limited to program operations, policies, budget and service delivery systems, and applicable state and federal laws that impact the agencies scope, mastery of community organization, and leadership skills in these areas and five years of progressively responsible experience working in a social and health service environment which could include quality assurance, program and policy development and implementation, supervision and experience in programs and services under the purview of DCYF.
A successful candidate will have some or all of the following competencies:

Most agencies follow the civil service rules covering leave and holidays for exempt employees even though there is no requirement for them to do so.
